4. Track progress and close well

Work through the guide, keep private notes, and mark this lesson complete when you’re ready.

01

Track outcomes, not activity alone

A status update should show completed work, remaining work, blockers, and decisions needed. Compare the plan with current evidence and update the forecast when assumptions change. Early notice gives a team more options than a late surprise.

02

Close and learn

Confirm acceptance with the person who requested the result. Hand over documentation and responsibilities. Record what helped, what slowed the team, and one improvement to carry into future work.

03

Try it

Write a short project update with one completed result, one risk or blocker, and one decision request. Name the owner and date for the next review.

Key takeaways

  • Use evidence in status updates.
  • Raise blockers while there is time to respond.
  • Confirm acceptance and record lessons at close.
