Workbooks and worksheets
A workbook is the file you save. A worksheet is one tab inside that file. Use separate worksheets when information belongs together but should remain easy to scan, such as monthly records and a yearly summary.
Save a useful file
Choose a clear file name and save the workbook in the location where you keep your work. The standard .xlsx format preserves formulas, tables, and formatting. Keep the original data when trying an unfamiliar change.
Try it
Rename Sheet1 to Budget. Add another worksheet called Notes. Confirm that both tabs remain inside the same workbook.
Key takeaways
- Workbook means the whole file; worksheet means one tab.
- Clear worksheet names make a workbook easier to use.
- Use .xlsx to preserve normal Excel workbook features.
